Before watching the video, I knew the Supreme Court was important, but I did not realize just how much responsibility rests on nine justices' shoulders. Before watching the video, I imagined the Supreme Court as a very distant institution. Instead, the justices came across as surprisingly respectful and personable. I was shocked to learn that they deliberate in silence and that they shake hands before every meeting. Another detail I found interesting was that everyone gets a chance to speak once before anyone speaks a second time, ensuring that every justice has an opportunity to share their perspective.
The video also helped me better understand the Court's role in interpreting the Constitution. The justices are responsible for applying a document that is more than 200 years old to modern issues while continuing to protect freedoms and safeguard liberty. I had never really considered how challenging that responsibility must be.

My biggest takeaway is that the Supreme Court is more than just a court. The video described it as a model for other high courts around the world and one of the most influential and powerful judicial bodies on earth. Learning more about its history, traditions, and responsibilities gave me a greater appreciation for the role it plays in American government and in protecting individual freedoms.
